Take the Pledge

The RLC is authorized by the Republican Party to endorse both candidates and ballot issues. In general, the RLC endorses at the federal level, and the Alabama RLC endorses at state and local levels. For candidates for federal office in Alabama, the Alabama RLC also recommends endorsements to the national RLC.

In addition to our press and grassroots capabilities of providing volunteers, speakers and general support to our endorsed candidates, the RLC has a federal Political Action Committee which allows donors to monetarily support endorsed candidates for office.

The Liberty Compact was inspired by the late Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona, author of Conscience of a Conservative, who argued government was not the solution — but the problem.

Candidates for public office seeking the endorsement of the Republican Liberty Caucus are asked to sign the Liberty Compact, which can be downloaded as a word document (.doc) or can be printed from a web document or a PDF and sent to the RLC.

I pledge to the citizens of Alabama, and to the American people, that as their elected representative I will work to: restore liberty, not restrict it; shrink government, not expand it; reduce taxes, not raise them; abolish programs, not create them; promote the freedom and independence of citizens, not the interference of government in their lives; and observe the limited, enumerated powers of our Constitution, not ignore them.

Liberty Compact signers include Congressmen Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Ron Paul (R-TX), John Shadegg (R-AZ), and former Congressman Bob Barr (R-GA).

Candidates can send completed Liberty Compacts to the Alabama RLC Media Director.
